Marvel Comics was founded in 1939 under the name Timely Publications by Martin Goodman, a magazine publisher based in New York City. Goodman saw the growing popularity of comic books and decided to enter the industry. The company later became known as Atlas Comics in the 1950s and was eventually renamed Marvel Comics in the early 1960s.
Two of the most influential figures in Marvel’s history were Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Stan Lee, whose real name was Stanley Martin Lieber, worked as a writer and editor and became the public face of Marvel. He helped create many iconic characters and introduced a new style of storytelling that made superheroes more human and relatable.
Jack Kirby, often called “The King of Comics,” was a brilliant artist and co-creator of many Marvel characters. His dynamic art style and imaginative ideas shaped the Marvel Universe. Together, Lee and Kirby created famous heroes such as the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Hulk, Thor, and Iron Man.
